car2go smart car launches in Hamburg

smart car are more than excited to tell you about the latest adventures of the smart fortwo car2go edition!

The smart car sharing scheme car2go, already a big hit in Austin, Texas and Ulm in Germany, will be happy and ready to play in Hamburg from spring 2011. Starting off with 300 technologically-advanced smart car fortwos, the car2go scheme in the Hanseatic City will give the city’s residents a chance to simply ‘get in and drive off at any time’. If car2go takes off as well in Hamburg as it has in the two other locations, more agile smarts will be added to keep up with the expected demand.

Recently featuring at the Paris Motor Show, the smart car car2go edition is equipped with the best of technology and style. These delightful blue and white car2go smarts have been perfectly designed to make car sharing the smart transport of the future. Outstanding telematics give the smart all the info it needs to share and share alike (sounds like a Cher tribute act) and a solar roof to make this smart even greener, not to mention the stack of environmentally-friendly features.

car2go works by giving authorised customers a PIN that’s typed into the smart fortwo touchscreen, with special smart cards given to access refuelling and car park entry. As the car2go scheme works in partnership with rental company Europcar, it’s really easy to find a friendly face to help with any questions – although it’s all pretty straightforward!

Christoph Ahlhaus, who goes by the rather dashing title of the ‘First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg’, is certainly looking forward to the smart revolution. He said, “I am pleased that we are the world’s first city of over one million inhabitants to introduce car2go. The people in Hamburg are traditionally vey open to new ideas, and I am therefore confident that car2go will be a great success for Hamburg and its citizens.”
