smart car favourite: school learns about smart art

Thanks to a mutually-beneficial partnership between Mercedes-Benz, smart of Northampton and Wellingborough Prep School, the smart car art competition has certainly got youngsters from years 4, 5 and 6 inspired.

This latest competition saw the children design a new smart car livery inspired by their favourite artist, with the top 30 entries currently on display at the Mercedes-Benz and smart of Northampton’s Riverside Business Park showroom.

With the winning design being the one which receives the most votes, it will be turned into a smart car vinyl wrap and the arty smart will then go on an adventure around the county.

Wellingborough Prep School’s Director of Art Paula Warford said, “The project has been fantastic as it has allowed the children to look at art from a historical context, to research an artist and their work and then apply their style to the shape of a car. All of the children have been really excited about taking part and a number have even asked if their parents can buy the car if they win.”

The special relationship between smart of Northampton, Mercedes-Benz and Wellingborough Prep School doesn’t stop at this competition though, as there are all manner of presentations, engineering support and other creative initiatives going on.

Mercedes-Benz and smart of Northampton’s General Manager Mike Sands commented, “Supporting our local community wherever possible is important to us as a business, and we’re delighted to link up with Wellingborough School in several areas that will benefit pupils with their learning.” Hear, hear!
