The innovative car2go smart car hire scheme is on the road again!

The latest city to get the go ahead to join the brilliant car sharing programme is Austria’s beautiful capital Vienna, with the smart car fleet set to be rolled out in December.

And it’s quite a fleet! 500 smart fortwo ‘car2go edition’ vehicles will be available for spontaneous rental at various strategic locations around the city. For those of you that have not yet come across car2go, it’s a delightfully eco-excellent vehicle rental programme that allows members to easily rent and return the highly efficient smart cars under its ‘free-floating concept’.

Already popular in such forward-thinking cities as Vancouver and Hamburg, car2go charges a one-time registration fee (which is just €9.90 in Vienna) and there’s no deposit, no long-term contract and no annual membership fee. It really couldn’t be simpler – the charge is per minute, per hour or per day and the smarts can even be rented via the internet or a smartphone app.

Robert Henrich, managing director of car2go GmbH explained how the mobility system works, adding, “With car2go you can simply get in and drive. Our customers can rent a vehicle spontaneously – without prior reservation or specifying a time of return. You can simply leave the vehicle at your destination without having to return it to the departure point.”

The smart fortwo ‘car2go edition’ provides the fleet with cleverly-designed, agile and unique vehicles. Features include integrated software to make pick up and drop off as easy as driving the smart in the city.

From 15 November residents of Vienna can register to join the scheme at www.car2go.com or in person at the car2go office, Hintere Zollamtsstraße 9 in 1030 Vienna, with new members currently being given a 60 minute driving credit as a thank you for joining.
