Düsseldorf’s ready for car2go

It seems as though every forward-thinking city is keen to get in on the car2go act – and that can only be a good thing!

The German city of Düsseldorf is next in line to get with the car-sharing programme, with a 300-strong fleet of the dashing blue and white smart fortwo electric drive car2go special edition vehicles coming to the city in spring 2012.

As part of a joint venture with car rental giant Europcar and in close cooperation with the city’s authorities and the local transport network, the brilliantly adaptable car2go scheme will be a key part of a multi-modal transportation solution.

Dr Stephan Keller, head of Düsseldorf’s transport department, said, “I am delighted that the people of Düsseldorf will now also have access to this new-style and very flexible form of car-sharing. Its introduction underlines our commitment to pioneering sophisticated, innovative and fully networked forms of mobility, and increases the options for travelling around the city in an environmentally conscious way, with no need to own a car.”

So local residents will soon be able to pick and mix as they please, using bicycles, buses, trains and the gloriously nippy smart fortwos to work, play and visit in the beautiful city of Düsseldorf.
